Preparing for an Outdoor Wedding at Lynn’s Landing

In [the heavens] He has set a sent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber... Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
— Psalm 19:4b-6

Dear Friends, the Great Outdoors can be both friend and foe when planning a wedding, especially here in Northeast Arkansas. Many days, the beauty of Lynn’s Landing and the outdoors creates the perfect scenery for your wedding or event, yet sometimes, Mother Nature runs its course, causing us to change our plans at a moment’s notice. Let’s discover some ways to plan an outdoor wedding and prepare for the seasonal weather.

Each season is unique, but there are some common factors to consider in an outdoor wedding. Practical, but stylish footwear can prevent the bride (and others) from tripping in the grass or getting stains on expensive heels. Test the sound system acoustics before the big day, and have a contingency for rain or overheating, such as keeping plastic bags handy for a quick cover-up. Always keep a contingency just in case the weather doesn’t work out, like how efficiently directing your guests inside for a pop-up shower. Be prepared so you don’t have to get prepared.

Spring in the Air

During the Spring (March to May), the weather tends to include plenty of flowers and foliage, bringing some natural beauty. The air is beginning to warm up, and the birds are building their nests. This creates a romantic environment of new beginnings. Add some wildflowers or soft colors to your arches, and take full advantage of our gardens and ground flowers. The average sunset times are from six to eight, though you might want a midday or morning ceremony to take full advantage of nature.

Summer Time

June to August are the Summer months here in Arkansas. The weather is warm and humid, and keep an eye out for showers. When your ceremony is outdoors, keep some cold beverages handy, and perhaps some fans. Because sunset is around 7:30-8:30, an evening wedding would be the best time so you avoid the midday heat.

Fall’s Fauna

From September to November, the changing leaves create a backdrop of natural wonder. During the fall, you may see deer and migrating geese. The background of yellows, reds, and browns creates a comfortable setting; including these colors in your linens and decorations will bring out the beauty of this season. The average sunset is from 5-7:30, though any time of day would be perfect for your wedding.

Wonders of Winter

Wintertime is from December to February, and it may be a bit chilly. Winter weddings often come with Christmas or Valentine's Day themes. The timezone change enables the sunset to be from 5-7:30, just as it was for the fall times. Keep an eye on the cold, and offer guests warm blankets. Midday or midafternoon is a wonderful time to have your wedding, and the cold makes your place all the more cozy.

Finding the perfect wedding season depends on your style and comfort. Lynn’s Landing is open all four seasons, and we love it when people make the outdoor spaces fit them. I hope this page is a good resource for all those who are planning their weddings.
